Burgess' dagger theory

I believe that everyone is curious about how Blackbeard was able to steal Whitebeard’s devil fruit and why he’s so confident even though he isn’t strong.

The first time we saw Blackbeard steal someone’s fruit was when he killed Thatch. In the anime we see that he killed him with a dagger\knife. So far, there is nothing suspicious about that one, but let’s continue.

The second time was when he killed Whitebeard. He covered him with a cape so no one could see what he did. He could have pretty much done anything and wouldn’t know.

Later in the series, after the timeskip, we have only encountered his crew member Burgess. And something was really strange. When he tried to attack Luffy and steal his devil fruit, he pulled out a DAGGER. Why would he use a dagger on someone with a logia type fruit and haki. Isn’t it ridiculous? And he isn’t even the type that uses weapons. As I recall, he fought bare-handed. So why?

And the last example is when he fought with Sabo. He pulled the dagger AGAIN. So there is no mistake about it.

It definitely has something to do with stealing the devil fruits and here is why I think so:

Those 2 times when Burgess pulled out the dagger was against devil fruit users. When he was fighting Sabo, he was only thinking about getting the Mera Mera no Mi and not about killing him. This makes me think that the dagger is a special tool that allows him to somehow steal the fruit. Now the question is how?

My opinion is that it’s connected to Blackbeard’s awakened devil fruit power. We know that the awakened devil fruit’s are pretty knew to us even though they were mentioned before. It seems that in the New World it’s not something out of the ordinary so I think that Blackbeard could have gained that power. He became a yonko after Whitebeard’s death and had time to master it during the timeskip.

Back to the dagger. I think that that his power enables him to transfer his fruit’s abilities into other objects. That way, he could have transferred it to the dagger. Blackbeard is the only one who is capable of stealing devil fruits, so in order for someone else to do it, they would need his powers.

Assuming that the dagger has Blackbeard’s abilities, it would be possible for Burgess to steal the fruits. That would explain why he was so confident and was using a dagger instead of his fists like he always does.
